Healthy All Natural Homemade Products: For Self Care and Home

Last Updated on: June 12th, 2024

More and more I am becoming aware of all the crap ingredients that are in just about everything. From hair products, to skin products, to food, to cleaning products and more. I have known that they exist for a long time and a few times in my life read about some of the harmful ingredients.

For a while I might avoid said ingredient I read about that is bad for us. But over time I would become lax and not care as much, maybe it’s my adhd brain fog, forgetfulness or too many other things to worry about.

However recently, I keep having more and more videos, articles, people telling me about how horrible so many ingredients we use in everyday items are. How they are killing us slowly and could be contributing to the autoimmune, adhd and many other problems myself and others may be having.

I have a 5 year old boy and I want him to live a long healthy life, but all these poop ingredients in our everyday products can create an obstacle for this.

So I am taking steps in the direction of making all of my own Natural Homemade Products for self care and cleaning products. I will make a separate series for eating cleaner which is also going to be part of my journey.

Basically I want to switch from things that are hurting us to things that will help us.

Disclaimer: This post is a work in progress. I know I am all over the place with my articles. I use chatgpt to help put my words together sometimes but also write it myself sometimes. Read my about me page if you have so you can understand why, especially the blue part.

What I Will Be Sharing In This Blog Post

The steps I taking to make natural homemade products.

The homemade products I plan to make.

I will share the recipes as I make them and let you know if I am testing them out still or if I am finished and happy with the formula.

Some ingredients to look out for and avoid in the different products.

Steps To Making Natural Homemade Products

  1. I will be using the help of other people’s suggestions for formulas of these products as well as chat gpt.
  2. Then I am going to test them and see how they work.
  3. Then I will update the formula and try to improve it.
  4. Then I will test it again and repeat this until I figure out a formula I am fairly happy with.

Homemade Products I Am Planning On Creating

This is my current list if you can think of something for me to add let me know. I may make individual posts on each of the products with links here or may keep them on this page. I am not sure yet because it may make the page very long.

  • Sun Screen
  • Electrolytes (I know I said I wasn’t doing food in this one but oh well I need electrolytes daily and many have poop ingredients literally I will explain later.)
  • Multi-Purpose Cleaner
  • Dish Washer Detergent
  • Liquid Dish Soap
  • Window Cleaner
  • Clothing Detergent

Bug Spray

So far I have created two versions of bug spray and I am about to create a third using ChatGPT.

The first recipe had witch hazel, jojoba oil, peppermint essential oil and citronella essential oil. When we went on hikes the bugs were bothering us.

The second recipient all the same ingredients but I decreased the amount of jojoba oil, and increased the witch hazel. It still had the peppermint essential oil and citronella essential oil, but I added lavender essential oil and eucalyptus essential oil. The following hikes the bugs bothered us less than before but it is still not a winner.

So onto the third trial of creating healthy bug spray. I will share the recipe I will be using for the third bottle. So I will have to buy the tee tree essential oil next.

Here is the instructions from ChatGPT I am going to try next:

Alright, let’s try enhancing the formula further by increasing the concentration of essential oils and possibly adding another effective essential oil like tea tree oil if you have it. Tea tree oil is known for its insect-repellent properties.

Enhanced Ratio for 2 Ounce (60 ml) Bottle

  1. Jojoba Oil (Carrier Oil)
  2. Witch Hazel
  3. Peppermint Essential Oil
  4. Citronella Essential Oil
  5. Lavender Essential Oil
  6. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  7. Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional, if available)

Suggested Ratios:

  • Jojoba Oil: 10 ml (1/6 of the bottle)
  • Witch Hazel: 40 ml (2/3 of the bottle)
  • Peppermint Essential Oil: 15 drops
  • Citronella Essential Oil: 15 drops
  • Lavender Essential Oil: 15 drops
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil: 15 drops
  • Tea Tree Essential Oil: 10 drops (optional)

Steps to Mix:

  1. Combine Carrier and Witch Hazel:
    • Pour 10 ml of jojoba oil into the spray bottle.
    • Add 40 ml of witch hazel to the spray bottle.
  2. Add Essential Oils:
    • Add 15 drops of peppermint essential oil.
    • Add 15 drops of citronella essential oil.
    • Add 15 drops of lavender essential oil.
    • Add 15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
    • (Optional) Add 10 drops of tea tree essential oil.
  3. Mix:
    • Close the bottle and shake well to mix all ingredients thoroughly.

Tips for Testing:

  • Reapply Frequently: Natural bug sprays may need more frequent reapplication compared to synthetic ones. Consider reapplying every 1-2 hours during your hikes.
  • Test Different Combinations: If you don’t have tea tree oil, you can increase the drops of the other essential oils proportionally.
  • Concentration: Ensure the total essential oil concentration doesn’t exceed 10-15% of the total solution to avoid skin irritation.

So we will see what happens and after sometime testing it out on our hikes I will decide whether to have a 4th trial or if this bug spray is good enough.

P.S. Post still to be updated
